WHY SCULPTRA™?

As we age, the fat under the skin slowly diminishes. This causes wrinkles, creases and folds that make us look older. Sculptra™ is a solution injected below the surface of the skin to stimulate the body to produce collagen, a nature component of the skin. This process is gradual and takes weeks to reach its maximum potential. Sculptra™ reduces the appearance of wrinkles and creates a fuller, more youthful appearance. Multiple treatments may be necessary depending on the degree of facial aging of the individual. The great advantages to Sculptra™ are that it results in a noticeably younger appearance that have been clinically proven to last up to 2 years, and these results are achieved without the expense, downtime and pain of plastic surgery.

WHAT IS SCULPTRA™?

Sculptra™ is injectable poly-L-lactic acid, a polymer from the alpha-hydroxy-acid family. It is a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer that has been used safely for many years in dissolvable stitches and implants. Sculptra™ is intended to correct and/or restore the appearance of facial fat loss.

WHAT IS A SCULPTRA™ TREATMENT LIKE?

Before your treatment, you will discuss with Dr. Dyer the look that you would like to achieve with the use of Sculptra™. A topical anesthetic is then applied to the surface of the skin in order to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Using a fine needle, Sculptra™ is then injected under the surface of the skin. Different techniques are used to achieve the desired results. Multiple injections are necessary. The solution is massaged into the area of injection to provide a smooth and gentle appearance. Ice packs area then applied to the treated areas. Make-up should not be applied to the face until the following day. You will be able to return to work and go about your regular business after the treatment.

ARE THE RESULTS FROM SCULPTRA IMMEDIATE?

Well, Yes and No. After the treatment, you will have the appearance of what you will eventually look like as a result of the treatment. This is due to the water that is in the solution and the swelling as a result of the injections. After a day or two, the water in the solution will be absorbed by the body and the swelling will subside. At about 6 weeks, you will see approximately the results that you can expect to achieve. It is advisable to return to see Dr. Dyer at this time for an evaluation. You can discuss any further corrections that you would like to make and have any questions answered.

WHAT ARE THE ADVERSE EFFECTS OF THE TREATMENT?

As a result of the needling, bruising, minor bleeding, swelling, redness and minor discomfort can be experienced. Ice packs are applied to the face to reduce these effects. Ice packs can be reapplied for the next 24 hours if necessary. Patients are also discouraged from taking any medications that can enhance bruising and bleeding if possible. Arnica, a homeopathic medication can be safely taken to lessen any bruising.

ARE THERE PEOPLE THAT CANNOT BE TREATED WITH SCULPTRA™?

Yes. People who have a hypersensitivity to the poly-L-lactic acid should not have a treatment using Sculptra™. Pregnant women should not receive a treatment because safety testing was not performed on pregnant women.
